Here is a Bible story song called “Isaac is Tricked” that will teach your kids how Jacob tricked Isaac to gain his brother’s birthright. This song is perfect for the October season when tricks and treats are everywhere.
Do your kids know the Bible story of when Isaac is tricked by his son, Jacob? It’s a great story and one that will teach your kids that being tricky and deceiving is NOT part of God’s plan for their lives. Jacob’s trickiness caused great harm to his relationship with his brother, Esau. Your kids need to know that their lies and trickiness can also cause great harm. But the story also teaches that God works for the good in our lives even when life throws us tricky situations.
This Bible story song of “Isaac is Tricked” is perfect for October. Tricks and treats abound on the 31st, but this story will share that only fun and harmless tricks can be played on someone. Lies and deceitfulness are not allowed.
In the video below, you will see that I sing my song using Steve Axtell’s Magic Drawing Board. I consider “Isaac is Tricked” to be a “puppet” song that you can use with a regular Bible character puppet.

Here are the lyrics to this song:
My name is Isaac and I’m old and I no longer see
I like to dream of younger days
when I bounced my twin boys on my knee
Rebekah was my lovely wife, my bride and friend for all my life
I love my family dearly
But sometimes they were tricky
SL: Tricky? What do you mean by tricky?
Isaac: Oh, I will explain my story, but maybe you and our friends here can have a little fun while I tell it?
SL: Sure! We always like to have fun.
Isaac: O good. Repeat after me:
Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky (Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky)
Tricky, tricky, tricky (Tricky, tricky, tricky)
Jacob was tricky which made me sad, very very sad
But God had a plan – repeat (But God had a plan)
SL: This story sounds interesting! Can you keep going?
Our twins were boys and kept us busy. There were days of highs and lows
The oldest was Esau, then Jacob came next. Esau was hairy down to his toes
The day was coming when I would die and I wanted to bless both of my boys
I called Esau into my tent
But I never expected what happened next
Repeat after me:
Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky (Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky)
Tricky, tricky, tricky (Tricky, tricky, tricky)
Jacob was tricky which made me sad, very very sad
But God had a plan – repeat (But God had a plan)
SL: Isaac, what happened next?
I told Esau to hunt for food and asked him to make my favorite meal
After eating I’d bless my son while… at my bed he’d kneel
But my wife Rebekah made other plans and told Jacob to pretend
To be his brother and tell me lies
So I would bless Jacob first instead
Repeat after me:
Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky (Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky)
Tricky, tricky, tricky (Tricky, tricky, tricky)
Jacob was tricky which made me sad, very very sad
But God had a plan – repeat (But God had a plan)
SL: Your son, Jacob, lied to you?
Jacob brought his meal for me to eat, but his voice was very strange to me
I couldn’t see him with my eyes, so I had to trust he’d tell no lies
I asked this son, “Which son are you? Are you Esau my first born
But Jacob lied, how very sad
My blessing would have to go to this lad
SL: So Jacob tricked you and made you think that he was Esau. That’s terrible. But wasn’t Esau extra hairy and Jacob had smooth skin. Couldn’t you tell the difference when you touched him?
You’re right to say that Esau was hairy and Jacob had smooth skin
But my wife Rebekah was in on the trick and had Jacob wear goatskin
When I touched my son to bless his life, I felt his hairy hands
I didn’t know then that I had been tricked
But believe it or not this was part of God’s plan
Repeat after me:
Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky (Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky)
Tricky, tricky, tricky (Tricky, tricky, tricky)
Jacob was tricky which made me sad, very very sad
But God had a plan – repeat (But God had a plan)
SL: What an interesting story! Wow, your story really shows us that God can work for the good in any situation even when people try to trick us.
Isaac: You are correct, my friend. My plans were to bless Esau, but God’s plans were to bless Jacob and God’s plans are always the best. Well, my friend, I must go now and find Rebekah and find out what is for lunch. Shalom!
SL: Shalom, Isaac! Goodbye!
