Bible Verses to Encourage Sunday School Teachers

These 5 Bible verses to encourage Sunday School teachers can be a blessing to those who teach the Bible to your kids.

These 5 Bible verses to encourage Sunday School teachers are becoming a foundation for my ministry as The Scripture Lady. Today, I wanted to share these verses with you along with a sweet picture for each one. You could use these pictures as a kind of card to bless those who serve your children.

Being a Sunday School teacher or working in children’s ministry is a worthy and valuable calling from the Lord. If God has called you to share the Bible with children, it’s important that you have a biblical foundation of why it is important to teach the Word of God.

Teaching is one of the gifts of the spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:28. This verse is not only for pastors who teach adults, but it should also be applied to those of us who teach the young. As the Holy Spirit has gifted you in this area, He will also help you grow in your teaching abilities, helping you become more and more effective with each opportunity to teach.

Let these 5 Bible verses to encourage Sunday School teachers become a foundation for your own ministry.

  1. Luke 6:40The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher. This verse is an encouragement that carries a weighty responsibility. Do you have such a love for God’s Word that you are taking great care in teaching it? As you teach, so will your children be trained. You are called to be their example. Rely on God and His Word to teach your children well.
  2. Proverbs 22:6Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6 is perhaps one of the most well-known verses in regards to the responsibility in teaching children. Have no doubt, whatever your children begin learning at an early age will become their foundation upon which they will build for years to come. As a children’s ministry worker, you have the great privilege of being a part of establishing the truth of God in their lives and according to God’s promise in this verse, they will not turn from it.
  3. Psalm 32:8I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. As a teacher, this verse should be a great blessing to you. Teaching is a great responsibility. What a comfort it is to know that the Lord is our teacher. He will instruct us into the truths of His Word and how to creatively share His Word to the children we serve.
  4. 2 Timothy 3:16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness… No other book on the face of the earth since the beginning of time can claim to be God-breathed, except the Bible, the Word of God. The children you teach must be taught this truth. As their teacher, you need to hold the Bible in great esteem. If you show great respect and honor for God’s Word, then your children will be trained to have the same respect. The Word of God will prayerfully become all they need for their training in righteousness.
  5. Colossians 3:16Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Our God is so creative! This verse is a reflection of His creativity as it encourages teachers to use psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit when teaching. Everyone loves music, especially children. Putting Bible verses and Bible stories to music is a great way to teach the truths of the Bible. As The Scripture Lady, teaching with music is one of my trademarks. I encourage you to use music in your own classrooms and homes with music centered around the Bible.
