Bible game for kids: Good Gifts from God will help your kids learn a little bit more about how God is a good Father and will only give us good gifts. Based on Matthew 7:9-11.
The Bible game for kids: Good Gifts from God will add a little more goodness to their Bible time while they ponder the truth of Matthew 7:9-11. This is a great passage of Scripture that teaches how God is a good Father who loves to give good gifts to His children.
Matthew 7:9-11 says this: “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (NIV)
I love the saying that has been goring around for the past decade which goes like this:
God is good all the time. All the time, God is good.
This is a truth. However, I am afraid to say that too many of us easily fall into the same trap that Adam and Eve fell into, when they were tempted by Satan to doubt the goodness of God.
Never forget (and remind yourself when you do) that God IS good. God cannot be anything else but good. He is goodness itself. Therefore, when we go to our Heavenly Father to ask Him for something, we need to remember that He will give us what we need according to His goodness and good purpose.
Many of us grew up with fathers who gave us good things. But our earthly dads are not God. They don’t have the good wisdom of God to give us what we truly need. At some point or another, every earthly father will fail at being good. But God will never fail us.
The Bible game for kids: Good Gifts from God will help your kids learn more about this truth in a fun way.
What to gather for this kids’ Bible game:
You will need two plastic grocery bags – one for each child who plays.
You will need to print off 4 copies of each category of items – bread, fish, rocks and snakes. Place each category in their own basket on their own table and set the tables in or near the 4 corners of your room. You will notice that each card has a point value.
You will also need to print off the page of Bible verses that tell about God’s goodness.
You will also need to print off the grocery list cards. Their are 2 pages of these cards.
You will also need Bibles for all your children.
Finally, you will need a stopwatch.

Bible Verses About God’s Goodness
How to play this Bible game idea for kids:
Divide your class into 2 teams. Have one child from each team go to the center of the room. Give them each a grocery bag to hold.
You, the teacher, will pick a grocery list card. The grocery list gives the number of items the kids must go “shopping” for. Display the grocery list so that the shoppers can look at it if needed.
Tell the kids they will have 60 seconds to get as many items on the grocery list as they can.
On the word, “GO!,” the shoppers will go to the various baskets and pick the items they need and put them in their grocery bags. When you say, “STOP!” the kids must stop. You will look in each grocery bag and tally up the score they earned for their team. If they picked more than what was needed, those points get subtracted from their score!
Finally, before this turn is over, tell the kids that they can earn 50 more points for their team if they can be the first to find the Bible verse you will give them about God’s goodness. For example, one of the Bible verses on the list is:
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34
Therefore, you will say, “First Chronicles 16:34.” Then say, “GO!” The kids will then look in their Bibles and the first one to find it will earn 50 points for their team.
What to say before this Bible game for children’s church:
Teacher: Repeat after me. “God is good!” (Kids repeat.) “All the time!” (Kids repeat.) “All the time!” (Kids repeat.) “God is good!” (Kids repeat.)
Raise your hand if you believe that God is ALWAYS good. Be honest!
I think if we were all honest that many of would say that we have doubted God’s goodness at times. I know that I sometimes wonder why God hasn’t answered my prayers in the way that I think He should answer. But we must remember that God IS ALWAYS good. God knows everything. We only know a very little bit about our lives and the lives of others. Because of this truth, we can trust God to always do what is best in our lives.
Today, I want us to learn about a passage in Scripture that shows that God is a good Father to His children. It’s found in Matthew 7:9-11 and says this: “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (NIV)
To explain this a little more, let’s watch this video from The Scripture Lady.
(At this point, I encourage you to show the following video to your kids. It’s a fun and creative presentation of this great verse.)
Teacher continues: See, God is our wonderful good Father who loves us very much. Let’s play a Bible game to help us think more about God’s goodness. It’s called “Good Gifts from God.”
Proceed to play the game as explained above.
Enjoy!
