In Matthew 16:13-20, Jesus asked Peter, “Who do you say I am?” Peter proclaimed, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Here is a Bible activity to share with your elementary kids to help them learn who Jesus truly is.
Part two of this article will give you a fun Bible activity based on Matthew 16:13-20 when Jesus asked Peter, “Who do you say I am?”
Your kids are often very quick to say who they are. They love sharing their likes and dislikes and their hopes and dreams.
It’s important that each of our kids understands who they are, but it is even more important that they know who God is.
As a Christian, I am sure it is at the top of your priority list that you see your children come to the same conclusion that Peter did in Matthew 16. You hope and pray that they too will be led by the Father in Heaven to proclaim that Jesus is the Messiah!
Do your kids know who God says Jesus is? They might have their own ideas about who Jesus is, but they must always remember to compare their ideas with the Word of God. Click HERE to get more insight about the importance of who God says He is found in part one of this article.
Here is a fun Bible activity that I call, “Who Do You Say I Am?” This activity will present 8 truths about who Jesus is. Jesus is:
- The Almighty One
- The Bread of Life
- The Good Shepherd
- The Head of the Church
- The King of Kings
- The Light of the World
- The Rock
- The Door
How to prepare to play “Who Do You Say I Am?”:
For this activity you will need to print off all the cards that I have given you below. The first set of cards will create a large picture of Jesus with Peter where he is asking him, “Who do you say I am?”
The second set of cards will give you a title for Jesus. You must print 2 of each of these cards for a total of 16 cards.
Once you print off all the cards, you will need to carefully back each of the cards of the large picture with each of the individual cards.
Click HERE to see a picture of the layout of the individual title cards.
There are 2 ways that you can play this activity.
Way One: How to play “Who Do You Say I Am?”:
Lay all the cards, big picture, face down in the correct order.
Read one of the Bible verses below and let a child come and find the matching picture that goes with the verse. They will turn the cards over and keep them in the same spots that they were. Now, part of the big picture is revealed.
Continue to play in this same manner until the whole picture is revealed.
Way Two: How to play “Who Do You Say I Am?”:
Lay all the cards, showing individual titles, face down in the correct order.
Let a child turn over a card. Read the verse that correlates with the title of Jesus. The child will now get to turn over as many cards as he needs to find the matching title. Every card that he picks that is not a match should be turned back over right away.
The child can earn points for himself or his team in this manner: he will start with 100 points each round. Ten points will be taken away for each wrong card he turns over. If he find the matching title for Jesus on the 3 try, he will earn 70 points. (You start keeping track of points after the second card is turned over.)
