The Scripture Lady loves creating Bible review games! Here is one called “Which Verse Fits?” to teach how to apply God’s Word.
One of our main goals as teachers of God’s Word should be to show our kids how to apply the Scriptures in their lives. Our kids are onslaughted every day by untruth, whether through the media or even their friends. It’s important that we teach them that they can speak the truth of God’s Word in love and in due season when their friends contradict the truth. Here’s a fun Bible verse activity that you can play with your kids that will help them think of which Bible verse could be spoken to help combat a false belief or idea a friend may throw their way.
Bible review games will help your children learn God’s Word in a fun way and for this one you will need to do the following:
You will see below that I have provided you with 9 different false beliefs or ideas your child might hear a person say. You will need to write each of these on an index card that you can easily file them away for further use again. Next, I’ve provided Scripture cards, each containing two possible choices of Bible verses. I suggest that you display these verses on colorful cards and laminate them for long-term use. You will notice that I’ve labeled each verse A – I, to coincide with each false belief card. You might also want to provide a nice graphic label that you can place on the back of each Scripture Card, just to give it that nice finished game look. (Remember, the games I give you can be used over and over if care is taken in the beginning to give them a published, as well as professional look, and to laminate them. I’ve had some of my games for years now.)
Once you have prepared all of the cards, you should have 9 index sized False Belief Cards and 18 total Scripture Cards. The 9 cards will be held in your hand, while the corresponding Scripture Cards should be displayed, two at a time, on a table or board or pocket chart.
How to play:
To play the game, divide your class into two teams. Have one child come up. You will read him the first false belief card. You will then show him the possible two choices of verses that would best combat their friend’s belief. Read each one out-loud and then have him choose. If he chooses the correct one, his team gets 100 points. If he was incorrect, his team gets zero points. The next team is up and you repeat the process. The team with the most points, wins!
For an extra twist to the game, you could have both of the Scripture Cards turned around (in other words, the Scripture is not showing) and then the child would just simply have to guess which verse is correct without seeing it. Have him choose one of the cards. Turn it over and read it. After hearing the verse, let him decide if he wants to stay with that verse or choose the other verse. Both ways will be fun and educational.
