We’ll show a Scripture with a picture

We’ll have lots of fun!

It’s Scripture Lady’s Scripture Picture time.

This is a little song I created to sing with my kids when we would bring out our rebus Bible verses. What is a Scripture picture? A Scripture picture uses the age old puzzle form of rebus. We take a Bible verse and break each word up into pictures. For example, the word “the” can be illustrated with a picture of a thumb minus the letters “MB.” The word “of” can be shown as a picture of a shirtsleeve cuff minus the letter “C.” And the word “law” can be presented by a picture of a bear claw minus the letter “C.”

Rebus Bible verses are a load of fun to create. I bet your children would like to try their hands at them as well.

What are some activities you can do with your rebus Bible verses?

1.  Divide your class into 2 teams. Give each the same Scripture Picture. On the word “Go!”, each team tries to be the first to decipher the Bible verse.

2.  Play the old TV version of “Concentration.” Cover up the Scripture Picture with  numbered Post-It notes. Divide your class into 2 teams. Give each a chance to pick a number. Reveal what is under the number and give them 30 seconds to guess what the Bible verse is. Continue revealing portions of the picture until a team figures out the puzzle.

3.  Introduce your Bible memory verse using a Scripture Picture.

4.  Give your kids a Scripture reference and see if they can create their own Scripture Picture for it. You can even create your own Scripture Picture dictionary where you keep track of all the rebus words you use in verses for reference.

5.  Create wall posters from them and hang them up in your room.

Check back often for the addition of new pictures.

  • You’ve proably already figured this out, but the verse above that says “Psalm 119:11 is really Psalm 119:97. 🙂

  • Hi Vicki, I am sorry but I don’t have a rebus for that verse. Blessings to you!

  • do you happen to have this for
    Romans 8:38TLB
For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t.
The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away.
Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow,
