The Scripture Lady loves coming up with fun ways to tell Bible stories! Here is one called “Is This In the Story?”
Preschoolers love stories! And what a great privilege it is to share with them the best stories of all – Bible stories. As teachers, whether the parent or Sunday School variety, we should be ready to do a little review so these great Bible stories begin to stick like glue in our children’s hearts and minds.
Fun ways to tell Bible stories will help your children hide God’s Word in their hearts and for this one you will need to do the following:
I call it, “Is This In the Story?” It’s quite simple really, but does require some preparation. First, pick a story you would like to tell. Let’s use the story of Adam and Eve as an example. Now choose the way in which you would like to tell it. Do you want to read it straight out of the Bible using Genesis 2:4-25 or do you have a cute little story Bible you could use or maybe you have a picture book about Adam And Eve? Whatever choice you make, go through the story beforehand and make a list of the prominent nouns. For example, if I were going to read straight out of the Bible, my list would contain Adam, Eve, trees, rivers, animals and birds. Now add to this list some items that are not found in the story. I picked a telephone, computer and airplane.
Finally gather either pictures or actual props (or a combination of both) of each of the nouns on your list. Place all your items in a big bag or basket. Now read the story to your children. After the story, say, “We’re going to play a little game called, ‘Is This In the Story?’ I’m going to pull some things out my basket here and you have to decide if what I pull out is in the story or not in the story. Here we go!”
Store all your props in a bag or a box labeled with the name of the story and you are good to go for the next review.
