The Scripture Lady loves creating Bible memory verse games! Here is one called “Huckle Buckle Bible Verse” to make memorizing Scripture fun.
OK. Raise your hand if you are breathing right now. I will assume you raised your hand because the alternative would not be pleasant. Do you know what the Bible says about everything that has breath? It says that they can praise the Lord. To prove my point, Psalm 150:6 says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Here is a fun Bible memory verse game you can play with your kids based on an old favorite children’s game called “Huckle Buckle Beanstalk.” I call my game “Huckle Buckle Bible Verse.”
Bible memory verse games will help your children hide God’s Word in their hearts and for this one you will need to do the following:
The only thing you need for this game is an object that can easily be hidden. It would be fun if you had one of those really small Bibles that you can get at Christian bookstores just because the game is about finding a Scripture, but really any object will do. You are now ready to play the game.
Introduce Psalm 150:6 by saying the following: Raise your hand if you have breath. (Wait for response.) You know, I’m not sure if you guys have breath. I want to make sure. Let me hear all of you breath in. (Wait for class to breathe.) And now breathe out. (Wait for class.) Wow! You guys really do have breath. Do you know what this means? That means you can praise the Lord! So let me hear it. (Class should say, “Praise the Lord!” very loudly.) Wow! That was great! Psalm 150:6 says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Now let’s play “Huckle Buckle Bible Verse” to help you guys learn this great Scripture.
At this point, show your class the object that will be hidden. Explain that you will ask one student to go outside of the room while the rest of the class decides where the object will be hidden. When the object has been successfully hidden, the child who went outside will come back in. He will start hunting for the object. The moment the student starts looking for the object, the rest of the class will start reciting Psalm 150:6 very quietly. But as the hunter gets closer to the object, the class needs to get louder. The loudness of the verse will be a hint to the hunter that he is near the object. Once the object is found, have the whole class yell, “Praise the Lord!” Now, pick a new hunter. Play as many times as the class would like.
