Isn’t it amazing that God calls Himself our God? Literature and even the world itself is full of gods that are selfish and greedy. But our God – the One true God – calls Himself our God. We see this perfectly in Isaiah 41:10 which says: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” From this verse, we also learn that God is willing to strengthen us and help us and longs for us not to be afraid of this life. This verse is definitely worthy of your children’s memory skills. Here’s a fun Bible memory verse activity to help them hide it deeply in their hearts. It’s called “Hide, Seek, and Order Verses.”
Here’s what you do:
For this activity, you will need 5 manila folders. Inside each folder, write a portion of Isaiah 41:10. I suggest the following:
1. So do not fear
2. For I am with you;
3. Do no be dismayed, for I am your God
4. I will strengthen you and help you
5. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand
How to play:
Divide your class into 2 teams. Now choose 5 kids to come to the front of the class and stand in a line. These 5 children can be from either team. Have them open up their folders to reveal the Scripture. Have the whole class recite the verse 2 or 3 times. Instruct the children to close their folders.
Now choose a child from the first team. He must turn his back to the line of 5 kids while you, the teacher, scramble their positions. Once you have scrambled the kids, on the word “Go”, the child can now turn around and place his friends in the correct verse order. He has 10 seconds to do so. At the end of 10 seconds, for each correct portion of Scripture in its rightful place, he will earn 100 points for his team. Therefore, he could potentially earn 500 points every round. Play alternates between the teams. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game, wins.
A second way to play is to scramble the folders instead of the kids.
Tip: Make sure everyone has the chance to play. When it is the turn of one of the 5 children, just have another student from the class take his place.
Before playing this game, you might want to introduce the lesson in the following way:
Who would like to read Isaiah 41:10? (Wait for response.) This is a great verse! It gives us such a wonderful understanding of who God is. First of all God says that He is with us. The Bible says that God will never leave us nor forsake us. Second, our verse shows that God doesn’t want us to fear or be dismayed in this life of ours. When our circumstances get difficult we can always count on Him and run to Him for strength and help. God says in this verse that He is our God. This means that He has chosen us with whom to have a relationship. Wow! That’s incredible! Let’s play a game to help us learn this super Scripture. It’s called “Hide, Seek and Order Verses.”
