Here is a fun Bible time idea: Flying Around the World-Teaching Preschoolers About the Gospel
Teaching preschoolers about the Gospel can be fun especially when sharing the good news of Jesus’ love for the whole world.Your preschoolers may not be familiar with the word “gospel”, but they are becoming very familiar with good news. The word “gospel “ means “good news”. Your little ones get excited when they hear the good news that Grandma is coming over for a visit or the good news that you made their favorite meal or the extra special good news that they get to go to Disneyland. But the best good news of all is that Jesus died for them. Here is a fun preschool Bible school activity you can play to help your little ones understand this wonderful truth. It’s called “Flying Around the World.”
Here’s what you do:
For this Bible school activity you will need to prepare 5 to 10 pictures of the following countries:
1. Africa
2. India
3. Mexico
4. Israel
5. USA
6. China
7. Australia
8. France
9. England
10.Russia
It would be best if you can find pictures of these countries that include a nice picture of a child from that country. You can probably find images such as these from “Google Images”. I suggest you laminate your pictures for long-term use. Next, gather enough shoeboxes and place one picture in each box. You might want to go the extra mile and decorate the boxes to look nice and engaging. Finally, place the shoeboxes around in a large enough circle that your children will walk around. You are now ready to play this game.
Here’s how to play:
The word “gospel” is too abstract for preschoolers to grasp, but the term “good news” is one they can understand. I actually wrote a little song whose words go as follows:
Good news is comin’ round the bend
Good news is comin’ round the bend
The good news is Jesus died for me
The good news is Jesus died for you-ooo
It’s the gospel truth-oo-ooth
Share this song/poem with your little ones and explain that God wants to share the good news that Jesus died for all boys and girls all over the world. At this point, instruct your children to go stand in front of one the shoeboxes. Ask one child at a time to reveal the picture of the country inside their box and say something like, “Jesus died for all the children of (China) because He loves them and loves you too.” Now tell your little ones that they are going to “fly” around the world while reciting the short poem. Show the children how they can extend their arms out like they are airplanes flying high in the sky. At the end of the verse, choose a country and have each child open up the box they are standing by. Whoever has the correct picture is the “winner” of that round. Play continues the same until all countries gave been revealed.
