Bible Verse Games for Preschoolers for Luke 2:14: Up High, Down Low

Bible verse games are great for preschoolers too! Here is one on Luke 2:14 called “Up High, Down Low.”

Did you know that God’s Word is full of highs and lows?  For example, a high point in Scripture would be the birth of Jesus.  A low point would be His death on the cross.  There are also some literal highs and lows in Scripture such as found in Luke 2:14 which says: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.”  This verse proclaims God is in the Highest and of course our earth is down low.  Your preschoolers are learning what’s up high and down low.  So why not help them learn this concept along with the wonderful Bible verse of Luke 2:14 while playing this Bible School activity called “Up High, Down Low?”

Here’s what you do:

Bible verse games are fun and for this one you will need to prepare pictures of objects that are commonly found up high in the sky or even in Heaven and objects found down low on the earth.  I have provided you with the list of pictures I used.

Objects Up High:

1.  birds

2.  sun

3.  clouds

4.  airplane

5.  hot air balloon

6.  angels

Objects Down Low:

1.  bugs

2.  flowers

3.  tree

4.  house

5.  car

6.  barn

I suggest you laminate the pictures for long-term use.  Now prepare a large poster.  The lower half should represent the earth with grass growing on top of dirt.  The upper half should represent the sky.  Your children will attach the objects you prepared on top of the poster.  Therefore, you will want to provide tape or sticky tak.  Finally, mix up the pictures and place them in a bucket or bowl from which the children will pick.

How to play:

After introducing Luke 2:14 to your children, you will let a child come forward and choose a picture out of the bucket.  Let him decide if the picture he chose goes up high in the sky or down on earth and allow him to attach it in the proper area.  Congratulate him on a job well done.  Then have the whole class recite Luke 2:14 together in the following way:  For the first part of the verse which says, “Glory to God in the highest,” have the children stand on their tippy toes and raise their hands over their heads.  Then for the second part of the verse which says: “..and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests,” have the children crouch down on the floor.  Play the game until all the pictures have been chosen.

Before playing this Bible school activity, you might want to introduce the lesson in the following way:

Who can tell me something that is high up in the sky? (Wait for responses.)  Good job.  What are some things found down on our earth?  (Wait for responses.)  Wow!  You guys are really learning what things are up high (reach your hands up over your head) and what’s down low (crouch down on the ground).  Did you know that the Bible says that God is up high in the highest of heights while you and I are down here on earth?  It’s true.  Let’s learn our Bible verse for today found in Luke 2:14 which says, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.”  Let’s play a fun game called “Up High, Down Low.”
