Bible Verse Games for Preschoolers on Colossians 3:16: Where Do I Belong?

Bible verse games are great for preschoolers too! Here is one on Colossians 3:16 called “Where Do I Belong?”

Colossians 3:16 says this: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”  As the Scripture Lady, my number one goal is to get children excited about the Bible.  I want His Word to dwell within them richly whether they are 2 or 12.  I think it’s possible because with God all things are possible.  He loves His Word and He wants your children to know the Bible infinitely more than you or I.  Here is a fun Bible School activity to help your little ones continue to grow in their knowledge of Scripture.  I call it “Where Do I Belong?”

Here’s what you do:

Bible verse games are fun and this one requires a lot of preparation, but will be well worth it and can be played many times.  First, prepare the following 3 scenes: an empty ocean and land scene with Noah’s ark, an empty manger scene and empty creation scene (water, land, sky and sunshine).  You can draw these yourself on 3 different poster boards or look online for images that fit the needed descriptions.  Display the 3 scenes for all to easily see and so that other pictures can be attached to each of them.  Next, prepare pictures of the following Bible characters or animals.

  1. Noah
  2. Noah’s 3 sons
  3. Noah’s wife
  4. Noah’s 3 daughters-in-law
  5. Joseph
  6. Mary
  7. Baby Jesus
  8. Shepherds
  9. Wisemen
  10. Adam
  11. Eve
  12. Sheep
  13. Camels
  14. Cows
  15. Elephants
  16. Giraffes
  17. Whales
  18. Fish
  19. Birds
  20. Monkeys

Prepare the pictures to be a size that will fit nicely into the 3 different scenes.  I suggest you laminate the pictures for long-term use.  Finally, you will need someway to attach the pictures to the different scenes.  You could use tape or sticky tak.  You are now ready to play this activity.

Here’s how to play:

After introducing this lesson, show the children each of the 3 scenes.  Tell them what story in the Bible each scene represents.  Before showing the pictures, ask the children what kinds of people or animals might be in each of these scenes.  Next, randomly show each of the pictures you have prepared in front of each scene.  Instruct the children that they should clap if they think that picture belongs in that scene.  Now, pick a child who will attach that picture to the scene it best fits in.  End each round by saying, “God’s Bible stories are wonderful! We should know them really well!”  Choose a new picture and play each round the same.

Before playing this Bible school activity, you might want to introduce the lesson in the following way:

Raise your hand if you know your mom really well. You know what her smile looks like, what her favorite cookie is or what makes her laugh.  (Wait for responses.)  Raise your hand if you know your house really well.  You know where your room is, where the kitchen is or where the backyard is.  (Wait for responses.)  Did you know that God wants us to know His Bible stories really well?  He does.  Colossians 3:16 says this: “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly…”  That’s just a fancy way for saying God wants us to know His Word really, really well.  Let’s play a fun activity tat will help us learn more about His wonderful Word.  It’s called “Where Do I Belong?”
