“What is Sin?” Game for Young Children by The Scripture Lady

Thank you for purchasing a Scripture Lady Bible review game for kids!

“What is Sin?”  is a creative game for young children ages preschool through 2nd grade to help them learn more about the one thing that separates them from having a relationship with God.

The “What is Sin?” Game for young children was written for my Easter program called, “O Happy Day!” I had a lot of fun putting this program together. I had to take on the challenge of creating a program that expressed both the joy and seriousness of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.

I knew I needed to include an element where the kids would be taught about the true meaning of sin. I decided to do this through playing a game. We all know that sin is nothing to play around with. But over the years, I have learned that a game can be very effective when teaching about serious topics. It follows the age-old adage of “a little sugar helps the medicine go down.”

This game uses one of my favorite ways to teach young children – my Bible Story Tapper. My Bible Story Tapper is a HUGE fly swatter that I purchased from my local Dollar store several years ago. The kids really like it because it so big. As you teach about the different examples of sin, you will let a child come up and find the matching picture that you just taught about. You will hand the child the Bible Story Tapper and let them give the picture a big WHACK! It’s always lots of fun and a great way to engage the kids in the lesson.

This game does take some preparation, but it will be well worth it.  Just follow the directions and have fun!

This is what you will find below:

* Instructions of how to play the game

* 16 downloadable pictures / slides for the game. – Size of each picture: 8.5 x 11 inches

* An instructional video

* A presentation video (You can show this to the children while playing the game.)

* All the files are jpeg files.

How to Download the Files

  1. RIGHT click over the name of the file you want to download and you should be given the choice of where on your computer you want to save the file.
  2. Once the file is saved to your computer, you can now locate where you saved it then print it as you desire.

Here’s how to play the What is Sin Game for Young Children:

First, you will need to print off the 6 pictures below that represent 6 examples of sin. You will also need to print off the 6 brown squares, one of which has a red heart in the middle. Five of the 6 pictures will be backed with a brown square, while the picture of the heart will be backed with the brown square that has a heart . I always print my visuals onto cardstock so that they will last longer. You might also consider laminating them for long-term use.

Now, place the pictures in the form of a cross with the picture of the heart in the middle. Look at the presentation video to see the order that the pictures go in. I strongly suggest that you place your pictures in a pocket chart that is up on an easel for all your kids to see. Doing this will help them stay more engaged with your lesson. If you are not able to do that, the next best thing is to pin or tape them to a bulletin board. But remember, you are going to turn each picture around after it gets tapped. Therefore, think through how you want to present the pictures. Another option is to place the pictures on a table or a floor.

The Bible Story Tapper – If you don’t have a big fly swatter like I am using, you can use one that is a normal size. But consider adding ribbons or beads or something to it to make it extra special. Click on the ad below for a page on Amazon.com to purchase the big fly swatter if you are interested.

Next, you will get the slides/posters ready for your game. You have a few options:

  1. Gather the slides/posters to create your own Power Point to present as you play the game. This is what I do in my live programs. Power Points are great because they are big and all the children can see everything. Prepare your Power Point and click through the slides as you play the game.
  2. Print off the slides/posters and simply show them to your children as you play the game.
  3. Have the children watch the Presentation video I have provided and stop and start the video throughout the game, giving a different child the opportunity to tap a picture.

Practice reading through the script of pictures / slides. Because much of it is poetic, you want to do your best and have as much fun with the wording as possible.

This game is simple, yet an effective and fun way to help your children learn more about what sin is. As you play the game, you might want to be ready to expound on each of the example of sin.

Most of all, have fun!
