Bible Story Sticks are my NEW favorite way to creatively tell a Bible story. Here is the story of the paralyzed man taken from Luke 5:18-25. You can use Bible Story Sticks while teaching in your classroom or home or anywhere when sharing the Bible.
There’s a saying that goes like this: “It pays to know people in high places.” If this quote includes different kinds of payment such as seeing kids be completely engaged while telling a Bible story with my set of Bible Story Sticks, then I am a very rich woman. I know the creators of my “Bible Story Sticks” and I am thankful to have this new visual aid as part of my ministry.
What are “Bible Story Sticks?”
The idea for “Bible Story Sticks” has been around for several decades, but my good friend and mentor, Rev. Barney Kinard and his co-writer, Rev. Robert Newhall, have taken this great tool for Bible story-telling to a whole new level!
Essentially, “Bible Story Sticks” are a set of 4 attached wooden sticks that can be manipulated in hundreds of different ways to tell a story.

How YOU can use “Bible Story Sticks” with your own children
Whether you are a parent or a teacher, you can get your own set of “Bible Story Sticks” to tell many of the great Bible stories. Rev.’s Kinard and Newhall have made storytelling fun and easy with their “Bible Stories that Stick” manual. Currently they have written two volumes that contain over 60 of the main stories in the Bible.
Here is sample list of some of the stories:
- Creation
- Naaman and the Servant Girl
- Jesus’ Unusual Birthday
- Temptation of Jesus
- Nicodemus
- Woman at the Well
- Jesus Calms the Storm
- The Good Samaritan
- The Raising of Lazarus
- The Ten Lepers
Each story comes with illustrations of how to move and position your “Bible Story Sticks” throughout the story.

Get CREATIVE with your “Bible Story Sticks”
One thing, of many, that I LOVE about using my “Bible Story Sticks” is how creative I can get. I begin learning the story as the books show, but then I find myself adding in other shapes and movements. It’s really fun to come up with ways to make the story come alive!
Take for example this video below of me sharing the story of the paralyzed man that Jesus healed:
