A Bible Story Song for the Story of Jesus Tempted in the Wilderness

Here’s a fun Bible story song to help you and your children learn about the story of Jesus tempted in the wilderness.

I love coming up with a Bible story song to share a story in the Bible that is usually not taught to children. The story of Jesus tempted in the wilderness by the devil is one such story from Matthew 4.

Perhaps Sunday School teachers and sometimes curriculums ignore this story because of the reference of our long-time enemy, Satan. And while I always want to give as little attention to the devil as possible, this story exists and should be taught in an appropriate way.

I actually wrote this Bible story song for the temptation of Jesus to be a part of my newest program for preschoolers called, “Tricky Tricksters and True Blue Trusters in the Bible.” Our enemy, the devil, is the trickiest of all beings and yet our wonderful Lord was able to resist his wiles.

I developed this program to fall around October 31st. As Christians, we do not celebrate Halloween, but this time of year really lends itself nicely to help navigate our children through what it means to be tricky and tricked.

Therefore, my newest Bible story song titled “Jesus Tempted in the Wilderness” is a great way to teach our kids that the devil does exist, but they never have to fear him when Jesus is their Lord and Savior.

This Bible story song creatively shares the the three temptations that our Lord was tested with.

Take a look at some of the lyrics to this song that highlights the three tests given to our Lord:

The Spirit led Jesus

To the wilderness alone

To be tempted by the devil

A test from God, we know

Satan, go away! To God I’ll only pray! Go!

Satan, go away! To God I’ll only pray!

For 40 days and nights

Jesus had no food

Then the devil came to tempt Him

He was tricky and shrewd

Satan, go away! To God I’ll only pray! Go!

Satan, go away! To God I’ll only pray!

I love the part of this story when Jesus says, “It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone.” Jesus was actually quoting from Deuteronomy 8:3, which says: “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”
