Scripture Lady’s Bible Review Games: You’re Out!

The Scripture Lady loves creating Bible review games! Here is one called “You’re Out!” to make Bible quizzing fun.

“One of these things is not like the other.  One of these things doesn’t belong.  Can you guess which one is not like the other before I finish this song?”  Do any of you remember this Sesame Street classic?  I do.  It was one of my favorites and still is!  Well, here is a fun Bible activity for kids, which is a spin off of this Sesame Street favorite.  This way of quizzing is called, “You’re Out!”  The object of this type of quizzing is to show your kids a group of word pictures from each verse of a Bible story and then have them decide which picture doesn’t belong.

Bible review games will help your children learn God’s Word in a fun way and for this one you will need to do the following:

To begin you must decide what Bible story you would like to review.  For example, you might pick the parable of the Good Samaritan found in Luke 10:30-37.  Now look at each verse in your story and make a list of the prominent word pictures given.  For example, I listed Jerusalem, Jericho, a beat up man, and robbers.  Add to this list a word picture that is not found in the verse.  You can make this picture on the silly side, i.e. an ice cream cone, to make the quiz easier, or you could pick a picture that is harder to decide whether or not it belongs, i.e. a priest.  Now find or make pictures of each of these words.  Laminate them for long lasting use.

Go through each verse of your story and find your pictures.  Sometimes you might have to combine a couple of verses if there isn’t much description going on.  After you have all your pictures prepared, you are ready to read the story to your kids.  Stop after each verse and have them decide which picture doesn’t belong.

If gathering pictures seems a little to labor intensive for you, you could also carry out this form of quizzing by simply listing the main words of the passage of Scripture on the board or on a paper.  As with the pictures, the child will then have to decide which word or phrase does not belong.

  • I love your work too and I so appreciate your willingness to share it with those of us in children’s ministry. Thank you, Scripture Lady

  • This is another great idea! It took a bit of time collecting pictures but the effort was well worth it. Laminating makes them a long term resource so they are able to be used again some time in the future. Many of the pictures can be used in different stories which is another plus! Thanks again – love your work.
