Commandment Pick Up – A Bible Review Game for Elementary Kids

Commandment Pick Up – A Bible Review Game for Elementary Kids is a fun way to introduce 7 commands of Jesus from the Bible. This game uses free printable cards for any classroom or home use.

Play Commandment Pick Up – A Bible Review Game for Elementary Kids to teach your kids that there are more commandments in the Bible than just the 10 Commandments given to Moses in the Old Testament. Jesus gave many commands. And as we are His servants, we are duty bound to follow our loving Master’s orders.

“Commandment Pick Up” pairs very nicely with my Bible verse song called “Love the Lord” for Deuteronomy 11:1.

Take a look at the sample moves to the song:

How to prepare Commandment Pick Up – A Bible Review Game for Elementary Kids:

This game shares 7 commands of Jesus from the Bible which are as follows:

Love the Lord – Matthew 22:37–38

Love Your Neighbor – Matthew 22:39–40

Watch and Pray – Matthew 26:41

Honor Your Parents – Matthew 15:4

Ask, Seek, Knock – Matthew 7:7–8

Lay Up Treasures – Matthew 6:19–21

Let Your Light Shine – Matthew 5:16

I am providing you with 7 pictures that correlate with each command. Each page has 6 of the same picture. You will print off one page of cards for each command.  Cut out the cards on the lines. Therefore, you will have a total of 42 cards. I highly recommend that you print the cards on to card stock or a heavy paper. You don’t want the picture to show through from the other side.

Thoroughly mix up all the cards and scatter them all on one table. They don’t need to be in rows, but make sure no card is on top of another. They need to be easily ad quickly turned over.

How to prepare Commandment Pick Up – A Bible Review Game for Elementary Kids:

I have written up a script that shares the verse for each command of Jesus along with a short commentary on each command. You can read the verse or you could have a child look the verse up in their Bible and have them read it. You will then read the short commentary.

Now, show the child who read the verse the picture that goes with the commandment. For example, the command of “shine your light” is represented by a candle. On the word, “Go!” you will give the child 10 seconds to turn over as many cards as he can to find as many “candles” as he can. If  the child turned over 4 candles, he has a score of 4 points. Place the “candle” cards back into the mix and turn all the cards face down again to play a new round with a new command.

Resume this same kind of play with each command until all commands have been taught.
