I love how the Word of God is so visual — and how exciting it is that God’s Word can be described by such great objects as a Sword, a devouring Flame, a crushing Hammer, and a Lamp unto our feet! These are things kids know. Now it’s your job to have fun with Bible games for kids and put the Word of God into their hands, minds, and hearts.
What You Need: For this Bible game, you’ll need to prepare the following cards: 7 Sword Cards, 7 Flame Cards, 7 Hammer Cards, and 7 Lamp Cards
Back all the cards with the small title backings, then laminate them so they’ll last for a long time.
Set Up: For this game, I use a pocket chart (approx. 28″ square) — you can find these at your local teacher supply store or online. Place all 28 cards onto the pocket chart in random, mixed-up order with the backing titles showing. Pick a scorekeeper to keep track — I always use a whiteboard on an easel.
How to Play: Instead of dividing my class into two teams, I play this game against myself (the teacher) and my class. Give a child a multiple-choice question. If they get it correct, they get to pick a card off the board without showing anyone. You, as the teacher, also pick a card without showing anyone. Cue your class to say, “Sword, Flame, Hammer, Lamp!” Once “Lamp” is shouted, both the child and teacher reveal their cards. Whoever holds the picture with the highest score gets the points. Continue with the next child, following the same steps through all your questions. The team with the most points wins — so yes, the teacher could actually win! Sounds like fun, huh?
Tip: If the teacher and child pick identical cards, the points go to the child’s team.
