Fruit Salad Upset – A Fruit of the Spirit Game for Preschoolers | The Scripture Lady

by | Feb 23, 2013 | Bible Games, Fruit of the Spirit, Preschool Bible Activity, The Blog

I love working with preschoolers because everything is new to them — their numbers, their ABCs, and their fruits! This game helps your little ones learn the Fruit of the Spirit while practicing counting at the same time.

This Bible verse game will help preschoolers learn Galatians 5:22–23, and for this one you will need the following:

  • Fruit picture cards (printables below), cut out and laminated
  • Number cards 1–10 (printable below), laminated

    • The “Fruit Salad Upset” chart (printable below), laminated
    • A plastic salad bowl
    • A bucket for the number cards

Display the fruit cards on a pocket chart, place the numbers in the bucket, and you’re ready to play.

    How to play:

Tell the children you need their help making a fruit salad. Explain that fruit salad is yummy and good for you — and God gave us all sorts of fruit, plus the Fruit of the Spirit, which is good for us too! A child picks a number from the bucket, shows it to the class, and finds the matching fruit on the “Fruit Salad Upset” chart. They pull that fruit card from the pocket chart and drop it in the salad bowl, then set the number card aside. Play continues until someone picks number 10 — when that happens, shout “Fruit Salad Upset!” and pop the bowl so the fruit cards go flying! Gather the cards, put them back on the chart, and play again. See how full a fruit salad you can build before you hit 10!

This is one of my most-loved games on Pinterest, and I know why — the surprise “upset” moment gets kids every time! It’s a great way to sneak in some counting practice too.

Where is the “fruit salad upset” chart? I am having a hard time finding it. Thanks!
