If you’ve got a stack of Bible verse songs and a room full of wiggly kids, you’re sitting on more fun than you realize! Scripture songs aren’t just for singing along — they make fantastic games that get children up, moving, and hiding God’s Word in their hearts without even realizing they’re memorizing.
Below are 10 of my favorite ways to turn any Bible verse song into an active, laughter-filled game. And if you signed up for my newsletter, don’t forget — you already have a set of free Bible verse songs and games waiting for you to try these with today!
1. 👂 You Gotta Listen
Play the Scripture song and have 2 children compete to find the verse being sung — first one to locate it in their Bible wins!
2. 🎈 Pop ‘Em
Give each team a set of balloons — one for every word in the verse. Before blowing up each balloon, tuck a small piece of paper inside with one word from the verse written on it. Play the Scripture song. The first team to pop their balloons and arrange the words in correct verse order before the song ends wins.
3. 👆 Follow the Bopper
Pick a Scripture song and make signs for each word (or group of words) in the verse. Have children come up, hold a sign, and face the audience. As the class sings along, you (the teacher) lightly “bop” each child on the head when it’s their word’s turn in the song.
4. 🏐 Bouncy, Bouncy
Toss out 2 beach balls of different colors — one for the boys, one for the girls. While the music plays, each team bounces their ball around to their teammates. When the music stops, the two children left holding a ball race to the stage and find the verse in the Bible. First team to find it wins.
5. 🎭 Scripture Puppets
This one takes a little rehearsal, but it’s worth it! Give a group of children colorful signs on paint sticks with the words to the Scripture song. Choreograph movements to the music — the words don’t need to appear in order; it’s actually cuter when they pop up and down in different spots. Hide the group behind a curtain, play the song, and let them perform.
6. 🔍 You Gotta Listen… for the Next Verse
Play just like “You Gotta Listen” above, but this time children compete to find the verse that comes after the one in the Scripture song being played.
7. 💃 Do the Scripture-Rena
Remember the Macarena? Kids love it because it’s so easy to follow. Take any song with a 4-beat rhythm and add these moves:
Right arm straight out, palm down → left arm straight out, palm down → right palm up → left palm up → right arm crosses to left shoulder → left arm crosses to right shoulder → right arm taps back of head → left arm taps back of head → right arm crosses to left hip → left arm crosses to right hip → right fist on right hip → left fist on left hip → clap hands 2–3 times → quarter jump to the left.
8. 👕 Pocket Scriptures
Grab 2 body-sized pocket charts and attach yarn to the top of each so children can wear them around their necks. Divide the class into 2 teams and call up 3 children from each — one child wears the pocket chart. On “Go!”, hand each team an envelope with separate word cards for the verse you’re learning. Play the Scripture song. While it plays, teams race to place their cards in correct verse order in the pocket chart. Most words in order when the song ends wins.
9. 🎣 Go Fish
Divide the class into 2 teams and give each a bucket of different Scripture references, including the one for the song you’ll play. Play the Scripture song. The first child to fish out the correct reference wins.
10. 🧺 Clothesline Scramble
Play just like “Pocket Scriptures,” but instead of pocket charts, give each team a clothesline and clothespins to hang the verse’s words in the correct order.
