Stories of Old: Teaching Preschoolers About the Bible

Here is a fun Bible time idea: Stories of Old-Teaching Preschoolers About the Bible

Teaching preschoolers about the Bible is essential. What is your preschooler’s favorite story in the Old Testament? Joseph and his coat of many colors?  Noah and the Ark?  Baby Moses in the basket?  Or Jacob’s ladder of angels?  Each of these stories is a precious treasure worth more than all the gold in the world.  Here is a fun Bible school activity for your preschoolers to help them become more familiar with God’s great and true stories.  I call it “Stories of Old”.

Here’s what you do:
For this game I have provided you with 15 pictures representing the most well-known Bible stories for preschoolers.  The list is fond below. Print the pictures and consider laminating them for long-term use.  Lastly, learn the following little rhyme to the tune of “Pop Goes the Weasel”.

God’s wonderful stories are very true.
They’re all found in the Bible.
He wrote them all for me and for you.
Which one is your favorite?

Here’s how to play:
Take 5 of the pictures and place them face down in a circle around which your children will march.  Choose one of your children to be the Bible story chooser.  Lead the children in singing the little song while walking around the circle of stories.  When the children sing the word “favorite”, the Bible story chooser turns over one of the pictures.  The chooser should identify the story’s title and then pick a new child to be the Bible story chooser.  Add a new story face down in the circle to replace the one identified.  Play several times making sure each child has a chance to choose a story.

Before playing this Bible school activity you might want to introduce it in the following way:
Who can tell me their favorite Bible story?  (Wait for responses.)  I love all those stories because each of those stories is true.  Everything written in the Bible is true because it is all God’s Word.  (Show each of the Bible story pictures to the children to help familiarize them before playing the game.  Point out prominent points of each story reiterating each time that the story is true.  Finally, teach the little song to the children and then play the game.)
