1.  Direct Questions. Asking a direct question after giving a piece of biblical information is very reminiscent of studying a catechism. It’s also probably the hardest type of Bible review quizzing, but well worth the time to study and learn. For example:

For questions about God after teaching some of the basic concepts, you might ask: Does God have a body like yours and mine?

Answer:  No. God does not have a body like yours and mine.

2.  True or False. This and multiple choice questions are probably the most common ways of asking Bible review questions. Simply make a statement about the Bible story of concept you are teaching and then ask a true or false question. For example: Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  Quiz Question: Only some of the people in the world have sinned.

Answer: False.

3.  Multiple Choice. When asking a multiple choice Bible review quiz question, make a statement about the Bible story of concept you are teaching and then provide 3 to 4 possible answers to the question. For example:

John 10:14 says, “I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep and they know me.”

Quiz Question: Jesus calls Himself…

A.  The bad shepherd.

B.  Goody two-shoes.

C.  The good shepherd.

Answer: C

4.  Fill in the Blank. This form of quizzing can actually be done impromptu. Take a passage of Scripture. Read one verse at a time. After each verse, give the child a fill-in-the-blank sentence.  For example:

Read Psalm 23:1: The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want.

Then say, “Fill in the blank: The Lord is my _____________.”

Wait for their answer and reward a correct answer.

5. Which One Doesn’t Belong? This form of Bible review quiz takes a little more effort, but can be very fun. Take a Bible story or passage in the Bible and then present a list of people, place or things that DO belong in the passage, but include one thing that does not belong. For example:

Read Judges 6:15 which says: “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”

Give the following list: Gideon, Israel, Manessah, weakest, strongest, least, and family.

Which one of these DOES NOT belong?

Answer: Strongest

6. The 5 W’s: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. I have always loved the 5 W questions for quizzing. This form of quizzing works best for Bible stories. For example:

Read the story of Joseph, the Dreamer of Dreams from your Bible.

Create “Who, What, When, Where, Why and How” questions such as, “What did Joseph dream of that was way up high in the sky?

Answer: The sun, moon and stars.

Check back often for additional Bible review quiz questions.

“Do not merely listen to the Word and so deceive yourselves, but do what it says.”

James 1:22
