Ezekiel’s Bones – A Bible Review Game for Elementary Kids | The Scripture Lady

Colorful title image for a Bible story game about Ezekiel and the dry bones.

Have you ever heard the old Gospel song that goes, “Ezekiel cried, ‘Dem dry bones!’ Now hear the Word of the Lord!”? It’s based on the incredible story of Ezekiel found in Ezekiel 37:1-6 — and it’s one your kids will love hearing. I created the game “Ezekiel’s Bones” to help take the “scare” out of dying or death for kids, by showing them just one of many true stories in the Bible where God brought people back to life. Play this Bible review game to teach kids more about God’s great miracles, and the promise that one day, all who hope in the Lord will be resurrected to live with Him forever.

This Bible review game will help your elementary kids learn 10 amazing resurrection miracles from Scripture, and for this one you will need the following:

    • 2 identical posters, each showing a full skeleton on one side and a full body on the other (line the bodies up back-to-back, then cut each poster into 8 matching pieces: one head, two arms, one chest, two thigh/hip pieces, and two lower leg pieces) — see a picture of the setup here
    • Different colored shorts drawn on each body (blue for Team One, red for Team Two)
    • A pocket chart (approx. 28″ square) — available at teacher supply stores or online
    • 10 printable quiz cards — print-ready, so there’s no need to hand-make your own:

Print, cut apart, and laminate for long-term use — each card is backed with a picture of a skeleton and includes a multiple-choice question about a different resurrection miracle in Scripture (with a few seriously silly wrong-answer choices your kids will get a kick out of).

Set Up: Place a title card at the top of your pocket chart, then fill the chart with the quiz cards, skeleton side out. On a large board, tape the 16 body pieces from your 2 posters to form 2 separate skeletons/humans. Each piece should flip over when needed, so add tape or tacky putty to the human side too.

How to Play: Divide your children into 2 teams. Tell them they’re going to learn about some amazing miracles in the Bible — people who were raised from the dead! One of these miracles was witnessed by the prophet Ezekiel, who saw a whole army of people come back to life.

One player from each team comes up, picks a quiz card, and answers a multiple-choice question about a Bible resurrection story. A correct answer earns a flip — the player’s team gets to reveal one body piece on their skeleton. The team with the most of their body revealed when all questions are read wins!

If you’d like to add extra fun, teach your kids the classic song “Dry Bones” alongside this game.

    Suggestions for Success:

    1. Laminate all pieces and cards for long-term use.
    2. Let a different child pick the quiz card each round so everyone gets a turn.
    3. Pair this with the “Dry Bones” song for an extra fun close to the lesson.

This is a great way to teach kids that death isn’t the end of the story — God has a long history of bringing people back to life! I love watching teams cheer each other on as their “body” comes back together piece by piece.
