I love Chinese food — especially the funny little origami-style take-out boxes. One day at a craft store, I noticed they sell different sizes of these boxes that nest inside each other, and it got me thinking: what a fun way to help preschoolers memorize Scripture!
This Bible memory verse game will get your preschoolers excited to say their verse, and for this one you will need the following:
Several nesting Chinese take-out boxes (found at craft stores like Michael’s), or substitute nesting lunch boxes if you can’t find take-out
boxes
- A small treat to hide in the smallest box (dry Chinese noodles, or a snack like potato chips if you go the lunch box route)
- A short Bible verse for your group to memorize (4–6 words works best for preschoolers)
How to play:
Say the verse together several times, then announce it’s time for Chinese Take-Out! Bring out the boxes and say something like: “I love Chinese food — do you? I love God’s Word too! Let’s say our verse together, and if we say it right, one of you gets to open my take-out box and see what’s inside!”
Have the class say the verse. Choose a child to open the first box — they’ll be delighted to find another box inside! Keep going, verse by verse, box by box, until you reach the treat in the center. You can replay the game by refilling the last box and starting over. Don’t forget your chopsticks!
