Bible Pocket Poems for Preschoolers: Engaging Rhyming Poems to Teach God's Word

Preschoolers love rhyming words, which is why nursery rhymes and Mother Goose stories are so popular. Creating fun, Bible-based poetry for young children is one of my favorite ways to teach God’s Word. When paired with eye-catching visuals and displayed on a pocket chart, these delightful poems become even more engaging and memorable!

What is a Pocket Chart?
If you’re unfamiliar, a pocket chart is usually made of durable nylon with multiple long plastic pockets designed to hold cards of

various sizes. I recommend mounting it on a sturdy board to ensure stability and longevity. These long-lasting charts are versatile tools that I’ve used for years to make learning fun and interactive.

How I Use Pocket Poems with Children:
After writing engaging poetry for preschoolers, I search for vibrant graphics to complement each poem. I print and laminate these images for durability. During the lesson, I gather the children, read the poem aloud, and display the matching pictures on the pocket chart. This visual approach captures children’s attention and helps them connect with the Bible message.

Favorite Bible Pocket Poems for Preschoolers:

  • “Planting Seeds” — Perfect for celebrating moms, this poem highlights the Fruit of the Spirit and encourages children to actively participate.
  • “10 Little Pumpkins” — Ideal for fall, this poem features pumpkins that teach children about Jesus and the feelings experienced by each pumpkin.
  • “You Protect Me” — Introduces children to community helpers like policemen, firemen, and doctors, helping them understand how God blesses these workers with talents to serve and protect.
  • “God Made…” — Celebrates the unique ways God has made each person, emphasizing God’s love and creativity:
“I praise my God, for He made me.
The Bible says He did it wonderfully.
You see, I’m different from everyone else.
It shows the world that God loves me.”

Check back often — new Bible Pocket Poems are added regularly to keep teaching fresh and exciting for young learners.

Not only do I love a good story, but I love a good rhyme. As a songwriter, I love coming up with rhymes that make children smile. These pocket poems will prayerfully bring smiles to your children and help them learn more about Jesus!
