Thank you for purchasing a Scripture Lady Bible review game for kids!
Play this Bible game for Philip and the Ethiopian Bible story with your elementary kids to help them learn the importance of sharing the good news with everyone they know.
The Bible game for Philip and the Ethiopian was introduced in one of my newest musical Bible programs for elementary kids called “Go and Tell.”
“Go and Tell” is a program all about the importance of sharing the gospel with those whom God places in our lives.
The Bible story of Philip and the Ethiopian is a great story that shows how Philip’s obedience to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit literally changed the world. Because Philip told the man from Ethiopia about the good news of Jesus Christ, christianity began to spread far and wide.
The story of Philip and the Ethiopian can be found in Acts 8:26-40. It has an exciting beginning and exciting end. In fact, its events are supernatural and your kids will love hearing about it.
One of the best ways I love to share any Bible story is by pairing it with a great game. I chose to pair the Bible story for Philip and the Ethiopian with a game called “This or That.” It was inspired by a game from one of my favorite children’s ministry mentors, Ed Dunlop. Along with the game of “This or That,” I share 6 different ways that man has been commuting with others since the beginning of time.

Here’s how to play the “This or That” Game for Elementary Kids:
For all the printing, I suggest you print all the cards and pictures onto card stock.
First, you will need to prepare all 12 of the “star” cards. You will print one copy of the page with 4 stars and two copies of the 2’s and 3’s stars. Cut out all the cards along the black lines. You should now have a total of 12 star cards. Print three copies of the “Card Fronts.” Cut these cards along the black lines and back each star card with a card front. You should now have a complete set of 12 star cards.
Next, you will print off all 6 of the “Ways to Communicate” pictures.
For the 7 Bible story pictures, you may want to print them off and use them to show the children during the game. Or you may decide to use the game video that I have provided for you. You can also use the files to create your own Power Point or other digital visuals.
As you can see in the video, I use a big game board for my game. It is magnetic and I have placed magnets on the backs of the “This or That” cards. The “Communication” cards were simply taped up. If you don’t have a magnetic board, you can place all the cards on a pocket chart for all to see or you could place the cards on a table. Try to make them as viewable as possible by your whole class.
However you choose to display all the cards, place one pair of “This or That” cards below each form of communication. Make sure the numbers of stars are different behind each card. In other words, don’t let a pair of “This or That” cards both have 4 stars.
Finally, you may want to have someone keep score of the stars earned by each team.
Divide your kids into 2 teams. Present the first part of the Bible story. It is written in rhyme, therefore I encourage you to practice reading it beforehand to make it flow nicely. After sharing the first part of the story, pick a child from Team One to come up to your display and let them pick any form of communication they would like. Now ask them if they want the “This” card or the “That” card. After they decide, you the teacher will turn over the card they picked revealing the number of stars their team won. Then reveal the other card and its stars. The other team gets those stars.
Continue to play in this manner until all 6 parts of the story has been told and all the forms of communication have been picked. The team with the most stars is the winner.

Best Practices for this Bible Review Game
- Practice reading through the Bible story pictures / slides. Because much of it is poetic, you want to do your best and have as much fun with the wording as possible.
- Don’t let the child turn over the cards. You, as the game host, need to take control of the suspense of turning it around and revealing the number of stars.
