Gospel Object Lesson: “A Little is a Lot!” by The Scripture Lady

A gospel-themed magic trick poster with bold, colorful text.Thank you for choosing a Scripture Lady gospel lesson!

“A Little is a LOT!”  teaches the truth that with God we have everything we need through His Son, Jesus Christ. And even when it feels like we have nothing, we are actually VERY blessed.

I often perform this during the Thanksgiving season, but the wording can be changed to fit any time or season. The main point of this gospel lesson is God’s abundant blessings.

Script/Patter

It’s almost Thanksgiving and I’ve already started shopping for my Thanksgiving dinner. I got some potatoes for my grandpa’s famous mashed potatoes. (Pull out potatoes and show them to audience, then place back in a bowl.) I bought a box of chicken broth to add to my famous gravy recipe. (Pull out chicken broth and show to audience, then place back in a bowl.) I bought some celery for my Aunt Jane’s stuffing recipe. (Pull out celery and show to audience, then place back in a bowl.) I bought a can of green beans for my grandma’s famous green bean casserole (Pull out green beans and show to audience, then place back in a bowl.) and some flour to make my my sister’s famous dinner rolls. (Pull out flour and show to audience, then place back in a bowl.)

This year my Thanksgiving table is going to be full. (Lift up bowl showing that’s it heavy with lots of good food.) But some years, my Thanksgiving table has been on the lean side.

You know, boys and girls, there might be times in your life when you have a lot (hold up big grocery bag) and there might be times when you only have a little (pull out lunch bag) like a cheese and lettuce sandwich (pull out sandwich) with chips (pull out chips). (Place sandwich and chips into main grocery bag.)

But did you know that even when you have only a little, you still have a lot?

In fact, sometimes you might feel like you don’t have anything. (Turn lunch bag over and shake it to show that it’s “empty”)

But when you love Jesus, He can turn your little (point to the lunch bag) into a lot (point to the large grocery bag). He can make your nothing into something. (Once again, turn lunch bag over and shake it to show that it’s “empty.”)

The Bible says that God has given us everything we need through His Son Jesus Christ. God gave us His Son Jesus because He loves us. God has given us heaps of blessings even when we feel like we have nothing.

Let me show you what I mean. When I was out shopping for my groceries, I stopped at the fabric store to pick us some pretty silks. Each of these silks makes me think of all the blessings God has given to me. (Pull out bag of silks and set on table.)

For example, God has blessed us with His joy. (Pull out yellow silk and place in lunch bag behind the “secret” panel.) Yellow is definitely a joyful color.

God has blessed us with beautiful things that grow. (Pull out green silk and place in lunch bag behind the “secret” panel.) Green reminds us of things that grow like trees and grass.

God has given us the sun (Pull out orange silk and place in lunch bag behind the “secret” panel.) and the moon (Pull out white silk and place in lunch bag behind the “secret” panel.) as two beautiful lights for our world.

God has blessed us with a magnificent ocean filled with amazing fish and animals. (Pull out blue silk and place in lunch bag behind the “secret” panel.)

God has blessed us with His Word (Pull out black silk behind the “secret” panel.) The black letters on each page of the Bible tells us about Jesus and about how much He loves us. (Pull out red silk behind the “secret” panel.)

So you see, whenever you feel like you don’t have very much. (Hold secret panel tight up against lunch bag so the silks cannot be seen and turn the bag over to show it as “empty.”) Stop. Remember God’s blessings.  Take a deep breath (take a deep breath) and blow into your empty lunch bag (blow into the bag) and bust open (slap the bottom of the lunch bag and grab the long silk and begin to pull) God’s heap of blessings in your life.
