A Gospel Magic Trick: The Gifts of the Wise Men

post-we-3-kings-gospel-magic-trickThis Gospel magic trick will delight your children and teach them about the gifts of the wise men to Baby Jesus.

What you will need to prepare for this Gospel magic trick:

Three identical decorative glass bottles with lids. Fill each bottle half way with water. In the first bottle put a few drops of yellow food coloring. In the second bottle put a few drops of blue with a drop of red to create purple. In the third bottle put a few drops of yellow and a drop of red to make orange.

Three identical cups that are not see-through.

Three cups that will nest inside each of the larger cups. You must velcro these to the inside of the larger cups and there must be enough room between the outside cup and the inside cup to hide a silk.

Three 9-inch silks, one in each of these colors: yellow, purple and orange. Place each silk in a cup by lightly twisting it around the inside cup.

About one tablespoon of “Slush Powder” inside each of the nesting cups. Slush powder is a fast drying gel – the same that is found in diapers. When you pour the water into the cup with the Slush powder, it will almost immediately create a solid gel. This is why you can turn over the cup fairly quickly and nothing will come out. You can purchase “Slush Powder” at this link: http://www.wholesalemagic.com/products/Slush-Powder-REFILL-Pack-1-Pound-of-Slush.html

Place the liquid bottles behind the cups matching the silk color with the liquid color.

You will need a “Jesus Silk.” There are different sizes. You can purchase one from this link: http://www.laflinmagicstore.com/product-p/msp36j.htm

You will need a “Change Bag.” This is a magical apparatus that has 2 compartments to it. You will place the “Jesus Silk” inside one of the compartments then move the lever to conceal it from the audience. Once the 3 silks are placed into the other compartment, you will move the lever back and you can now reveal the “Jesus Silk.” You can purchase a “Change Bag” at this link: https://www.magictricks.com/change-bag-onehand.html

You are now ready to perform the gospel magic trick for the Gifts of the 3 Wise Men. Have fun!

Script for the 3 Wise Men Trick

After Jesus was born, Joseph and Mary lived in a home.

And some wise men from the east saw a star in the sky.

Have you ever heard of the wise men from the Christmas story?

The Bible says that there were some very wise men

(Lightly touch the tops of each of the bottles.)

…who went to worship Baby Jesus after He was born and brought Him wonderful gifts.

(Fan your hands out over the table as if presenting the “gifts.”)

The wise men knew that their talent of being wise was from God and they wanted to give Him their very best.

(Raise your hands up to Heaven indicating that the gifts come from God.

The first wise man gave the Baby Jesus some gold.

(Hold up the first bottle to the audience.)

Some people would say that gold is the greatest of all riches.

(Pour the liquid from the first bottle into the first cup being careful not to spill over into the side where the silk is hidden then set the bottle back down in its original spot.)

The second wise man gave the Baby Jesus some frankincense.

(Hold up the second bottle to the audience.)

A very expensive spice that smelled beautiful.

(Pour the liquid from the second bottle into the first cup being careful not to spill over into the side where the silk is hidden then set the bottle back down in its original spot.)

The third wise man gave the Baby Jesus some myrrh

(Hold up the third bottle to the audience.)

A special oil to bless Jesus.

(Pour the liquid from the second bottle into the first cup being careful not to spill over into the side where the silk is hidden then set the bottle back down in its original spot.)

The first wise man poured his gift of gold at the feet of Jesus.

(Take the first cup and lift it high by your head and “pour” it toward you. Do not let the audience see the inside of the cup. Carefully pull out the “gold” silk then set the cup back down in its original spot. Keep holding the silk in your hand. Eventually you will have all 3 silks in your hand.)

The second wise man poured his gift of frankincense at the feet of Jesus.

(Take the second cup and lift it high by your head and “pour” it toward you. Do not let the audience see the inside of the cup. Carefully pull out the “purple” silk then set the cup back down in its original spot. Keep holding the silk in your hand. Eventually you will have all 3 silks in your hand.)

The third wise man poured his gift myrrh at the feet of Jesus.

(Take the third cup and lift it high by your head and “pour” it toward you. Do not let the audience see the inside of the cup. Carefully pull out the “orange” silk then set the cup back down in its original spot. Keep holding the silk in your hand. Eventually you will have all 3 silks in your hand.)

Each of their gifts were received by Mary

(Take the second cup and lift it high by your head and “pour” it toward you. Do not let the audience see the inside of the cup. Carefully pull out the “purple” silk then set the cup back down in its original spot. Keep holding the silk in your hand. Eventually you will have all 3 silks in your hand.)

…and Mary hid them away in her heart.

(Place all 3 silks in the Change Bag. Switch the compartment to the side with the hidden Jesus Silk.)

For one day she would learn how the gifts of these wise men would help her when her baby Jesus

(On the word “Jesus” pull out the Jesus silk to show the audience.)

…would grow to become a man and give the greatest gift of all – His life.
