A Bible Song for James 5:20 – Wrong Way by The Scripture Lady

Coming up with a Bible song for James 5:20 for kids was a little bit daunting. This is a powerful verse with eternal consequences. But when you pair this Bible song with a sheriff, a deputy and a sinner, you have a fun and winning combination. Share this western themed Bible song for James 5:20 with your kids!

I love a good challenge and writing a Bible song for James 5:20 took some extra creativity and a love for Johnny Cash!

James 5:20 says this: Anyone who brings a sinner back from the wrong way will save that sinner’s soul from death.

Words like “sinner” and “death” are often not talked about in our churches with children, but I believe these concepts should be addressed in appropriate ways. Therefore, I knew I wanted to include this song in my “Way Out West with Jesus” program for preschoolers. I thought that if could make a fun banner that looked like a jail cell and purchase a great big sheriff’s hat and deputy hat for a couple of children to dress up in, I knew I would have a winner.

Take a look at a sample of my Bible song for James 5:20:

As you can see the children and teachers were all having fun while learning about the eternal significance of our sin and how Jesus wants us to participate with His Holy Spirit to draw all men unto Himself so that they might be saved and not go the wrong way.

Here is the script that I used for the portion of the “Wrong Way” song.

I picked 2 children to be the sheriff and the deputy and I picked a teacher to be the “sinner,” but you can choose a child to be the “sinner” as well. The main point is to have fun and share the truth of James 5:20

Skit/Sing: Wrong Way Song

SL: So, (teacher), I hear you stole some candy out of the candy jar when the children weren’t looking. Is that true? (Nods head yes) (SL looks to audience and encourages them to gasp.)

SL: Are you sorry for what you’ve done?

Kid: Nods head.

SL: Will you ever do it again?

Kid: Shakes head.

SL: Why Sheriff, we have helped this poor soul from going down the wrong road of life. For the Bible says, “Anyone who brings a sinner back from the wrong way, will save that sinner’s soul from death.” Let’s celebrate!

Sing Wrong Way

SL: So, (kid), I hear you didn’t share your toys with the rest of the children.
