Scripture Lady’s Bible Review Games: Ezekiel’s Bones

The Scripture Lady loves creating Bible review games! Here is one called “Ezekiel’s Bones” to teach about Ezekiel.

“Ezekiel cried, ‘Dem dry Bones!”  “Ezekiel cried, ‘Dem dry Bones!”  “Ezekiel cried, ‘Dem dry Bones!”  Now hear the Word of the Lord!

Have you ever heard this great old Gospel song?  It is based on the story of Ezekiel found in Ezekiel 37: 1-6.  It’s an amazing story and one that your children will love hearing.  I created the game of “Ezekiel’s Bones” to help take the “scare” out of dying or death for my kids.  The story of Ezekiel beholding a miraculous resurrection is only one of the many true stories you will find in the Bible of people being brought back to life.  Play this Bible activity for kids to teach them more about God’s great miracles and how one day, all those who hope in the Lord, will also be resurrected and live in Heaven with Him forever.

Bible review games will help your children learn God’s Word in a fun way and for this one you will need to do the following:

This game requires some preparation, but your kids will be glad you took the time to put together such a fun game. First, you will want to prepare 2 identical* posters, one for each team. On one side, you will show a full skeleton of a man. On the other side will be a full body of a man. It will help if you can “line up” the bodies back to back, ie. the heads are back to back, the legs are back to back and so on. You will want to do this because you will be cutting each of the posters up into the following pieces: one head, two arm pieces, one chest piece, two thigh and hip bone pieces and finally two lower let pieces. You should have a total of 8 pieces for each poster. For a picture of what I did, click here: Image of game set up

* I gave each of the humans different colored shorts: blue for team one and red for team two.

Next, prepare a set 8 skull and cross bones cards for team one and 8 skull and cross bones cards for team two. I used blue cards for team one and red cards for team two. You also may want to create a title card for your game as shown in my picture in the above link.

Lastly, you will create 10 multiple choice quiz questions which I have written for you and can be found below. I backed all of these cards with a picture of a skeleton.

Be sure to laminate all your cards for long-term use.

Set Up:  For this game, I use a pocket chart (approx. 28″ square). (You can find pocket charts at your local teacher supply store or online at www.orientaltrading.com)  Place the title cards at the top of the chart, then fill that chart with all of the Quiz cards, skeleton side out.  On a large board, such as a white board or chalk board, tape the 16 body pieces from the 2 posters up on the board to create 2 separate skeletons/humans.  One team will try and “resurrect” the blue human and the other team will have the red human.  Each piece should be able to be turned around when necessary, so you will also want to put a piece of tape on the human skeleton side as well.  Instead of tape, you might try using that “tacky” stuff you can get at an office supply store.  You just pinch off a little bit and it will stick to your cards. Lastly, place all 16 of the skull and cross bones cards in a bucket from which the kids will grab.

How to Play:  Divide your children into 2 teams.  Tell the children they are going to learn about some amazing miracles in the Bible.  Continue saying: “Today’s miracles are all about people who were raised from the dead!  One of these miracles was witnessed by the prophet Ezekiel.  He saw a whole army of people come back to life!

To play our game, I will need 2 teams.  On the back of each of my skeletons is a live human being that each team will try and “resurrect”.  There are 8 pieces to each body.  The first team who turns over the most body pieces will win.  Team one will have this skeleton.  (Point to the appropriate skeleton.)  It’s live person has on red shorts.  Team two will have this skeleton.  It’s live person has on blue shorts.

One person from each team will get a chance to come up to the pocket chart and pick a skeleton Quiz card.  I will give you a multiple choice quiz about a story of a resurrection in the Bible.  If you answer correctly, you will then get to reach into my bucket and pull out a blue skeleton card or a red skeleton card.  Which ever card you pick out, that is the team’s body that gets to reveal one of the body parts behind their skeleton.  Remember, the team with most of their live body parts showing after all the questions have been read will be the winner.  Get ready to play “Ezekiel’s Bones”!

If you’d like to add a little extra fun to your presentation of this game, you might want to teach your kids the song “Dry Bones”.  Just “Google” it and you will come up with lots of choices.  There are even lots of nice video choices.  Always preview everything on the internet before showing it to your kids!
